Frequently Asked Questions for Events
If you cannot find the answer here - just ask, it's free!
- How do I make a booking?
We will issue a contract for you to sign which conforms to standard industry practice. This will confirm the booking. A deposit of 20% may be required depending on your event size.
- How long do you play for?
We usually play for 2 x 60 minute sets or 3 x 40 minute sets spread over a three hour period. This can, of course, be revised to suit your event - we are happy to adapt to fit your requirements!
- What size band should I have for my event?
A larger band including vocals and drums for parties with dancing. Smaller line-ups are more suitable for drinks receptions, dinners or background music.
- When do you set up and how long does this take?
It takes about 40 minutes to set up but we aim to arrive an hour before a performance. We set up with the minimum of fuss and disruption to the rest of your event. If you would like us to be set up earlier in the day an additional 'set-up fee' is usually charged.
- Once set up, can you move your equipment to another room later in the day?
Not usually as this causes disruption. However, at certain venues this may be possible, particularly with a smaller group.
- How much space do you require?
Probably less than you think! At least 12 feet x 10 feet for 'Groove Machine' party band. Much smaller for a duo or trio. We are, however, experienced at fitting into very small spaces! If you have any concerns, call to discuss.
- Do we need to supply anything?
Not at all. We will supply all sound, lighting (if requested) and musical equipment. The venue needs to provide access to 2 x 13 amp sockets. We can also supply or recommend a disco supplier if needed.
- Can you perform without amplification?
If there is a piano available at the venue, we can supply an unamplified group. This would not usually include vocals.
- Do you have Public Liability Insurance?
Yes we do - supplied by the Musicians Union.
- Can you play outside?
We can play outside if there is adequate cover as we use electrical equipment which is easily damaged by rain. However, it is at the discretion of the musicians on the day whether or not it is safe to do so.
- What refreshments do the musicians require?
Sandwiches and soft drinks are a minimum, with a hot meal necessary for longer journeys and longer duration events that fall within a meal time.
- How far do you travel?
We travel worldwide but most of our bookings are around London or the South West of England. Bookings beyond this area may incur additional travel expenses and/or overnight accommodation.
- Can we hear you play?
Yes - there is a selection of audio clips in the Listen section of the website plus public gigs that Edward is doing on the Gigs page.
- Can we request a song?
We would be delighted to learn a special song for you (free of charge) so long as it's of a similar musical genre. Just give us at least month's notice.
- Do you use backing tracks?
Hardly ever, our musicians usually perform completely live!
- Can we use your PA system to make announcements or for speeches?
Yes, for the duration we are at your event. or at extra cost outside of our performance time.
- Do you play recorded music during the band breaks?
Yes, we play background music from an iPod or CD player which complements our live sets.
- Have you ever cancelled a booking?
No, never. We have plenty of back-up musicians and singers of the highest caliber in case of holidays/sickness.
