Biography
Edward Leaker MMus(London) BMus(Hons) LGSMD
Soprano, Alto, Tenor Saxophones
Edward grew up in Somerset, studying the saxophone under a variety of tutors. From an early age, he showed a great interest in mastering both the jazz and classical styles on the instrument. Whilst still at school, Edward was lead alto saxophonist with the Centre of Somerset Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Somerset County Youth Concert Band, doubling on clarinet. He also won many local solo competitions across the South West of England.
In November 2002 Edward was awarded the status of Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for classical performance and in 2003 he successfully gained a first class degree on the BMus course at Kingston University, Surrey, studying with Duncan Lamont. During his time at Kingston, Edward performed regularly with the university big band, saxophone quartet and symphony orchestra as well as winning the annual concerto prize for two years running.
In 2004, Edward graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London with a Masters Degree in Music Performance. He studied saxophone and clarinet at the Royal Academy under the instruction of Richard Addison and Martin Speake.
Edward has performed in many of the countries major concert venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican Centre, London, and Dorich House, Kingston as well as countless private and corporate functions. Edward has also performed with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and works as a freelance saxophonist with various function/jazz bands across the country. Edward has also appeared on BBC television's 'Born and Bred'.
Edward’s teaching commitments include tutoring woodwind at several leading independent schools in the South West of England, including Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School as well as running a private teaching practice and performance workshops.
